A carpet consisting of 200,000 pansies was arranged in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in Chisinau on the initiative of acting mayor Silvia Radu. This was set up by employees of the Green Areas Association based on an old Bessarabian carpet and cost the municipality 1.8 million lei, IPN reports.
Silvia Radu told a news conference that by laying out a flower carpet they aim to institute a tradition in Chisinau, namely the celebration of the Flower Week during the Easter holidays. The goal is to create an attractive environment for the inhabitants of Chisinau and for tourists who visit the capital city.
“No matter who holds the post of mayor in the future, the city needs to be developed and made to look nicer, with attraction points, while such traditions and activities will unite the inhabitants of Chisinau and will attract more tourists and the city will thus develop,” stated Silvia Radu.
The acting mayor said she saw such examples in Europe and considers it will be nice to display flower carpets in Chisinau too. The flower carpet will be present in the square of the Cathedral until April 17 and then the pansies will be planted in squares and parks in Chisinau.
