“Caritas” launches an anti-tuberculosis campaign

The number of teenagers in Chisinau that got ill with tuberculosis has doubled in the first nine months of the current year, compared to the same period of last year. According to the Municipal Health Division there were registered 25 new cases. Concerned with these statistics, the representatives of MRC Caritas Moldova launches in Chisinau the APP Campaign (Acknowledge, Profit, Pass on) – A “Contagious” Campaign. According to the project’s coordinator, Rodica Iftodi, the campaign comes as a response to the further increase in the number of teenagers that suffer from tuberculosis in Chisinau, especially because of the lack of information and corresponding education. APP organizers propose to defeat a transmissible disease by an “outbreak of health”. The campaign addresses especially to the teenagers aged between 15 and 19, matriculated to the 152 schools from Chisinau municipality. According to the cited source, the campaign focuses on a category of beneficiaries badly protected against TB, on innovatory solutions to involve the society in combating tuberculosis, on media institutions’ plenary implication in the campaign’s activities. A contest for the journalists that reflect the TB-related issues in mass-media will be also part of the event. According to the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center’s statistics, 75 TB cases among children and teenagers aged up to 17 were registered in January-August currently, in Chisinau. 228 children infected with tuberculosis have been reported in Moldova at the end of last year.
