Over 1,000 patients have received care at the highest standards in the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiology Institute since it was provided with state-of-the-art equipment a year ago under the Kusanone Human Security Grants Program, supported by the Japanese Government. Today Japan's Ambassador Masanobu Yoshii attended an official presentation of the equipment.
The size of the grant provided by the Government of Japan was $82,000, which was used to buy vital signs monitors, infusion pumps, multifunctional nursing beds, a central monitoring unit, and a portable echo machine. Masanobu Yoshii noted that it is essential for citizens to be provided with high-quality public services, especially in the education and healthcare sector. “Improving medical equipment doesn’t come cheap, but we all know that nothing is more expensive than health,” said the ambassador.
Dr. Aurel Grosu, head of the Institute’s emergency cardiology, said that the 12 multifunctional beds purchased meet the requirements of caring for a cardiovascular patient. He also said that the new mobile echo machine that replaced an obsolete and malfunctioning one, allows the patient to be examined within the first few hours of hospitalization for a correct diagnosis and treatment.
MoH state secretary Boris Gîlca said the equipment purchased is the best there is – “Japanese quality brought into Moldova’s hospitals”. “The support offered to the Cardiology Institute is essential for people and the hospital,” the official said.
The Kusanone Program was launched in Moldova in 2008. Since then, 58 projects, mainly in the field of public health and school and preschool education, have received non-reimbursable funding from the Government of Japan totalling over $4.5 million. Health care projects have accounted for about 80% of the total.
