An ordinance issued by the city authorities informs that Saturday, September 22, car traffic in Chisinau’s historical centre will be restricted. The residents are urged to take the bus or trolley instead. This way, the Chisinau City Hall announced its participation in the European Mobility initiative themed “In Town, Without May Car”, also known as the European Carr Free Day. In the same connection, the heads of the municipal services and relevant divisions will provide the necessary assistance to the organisers of the Mobility Week, taking place on September 17-22. Besides the actions meant to raise public awareness about the impact of heavy traffic on the environment, the organisers will also take samples of air to determine the pollution level in Chisinau’s streets. Starting 2000, under the aegis of the United Nations, similar actions are held in the course of September in some 1,500 cities across the world. In Chisinau, the campaign “In Town, Without My Car” is held for the sixth time.
