The rerun tender contests to choose the operator that will catch and sterilize stray dogs in Botanica, Centru and Buiucani districts of Chisinau were won by a veterinary clinic. The capturing process begins on July 28. By the end of this year, the economic operator will capture and sterilize about 800 stray dogs, IPN reports.
Karl Luganov, senior specialist of the Animal Protection Section of the Public Amenities Division, said the animals without owners will be caught based on reports from people living in the three districts. “If someone sees dogs in their yard and wants these to be captured and sterilized, the person will have to complete a questionnaire. We later make a capture order and the animals are taken by a car. The stray dogs are sterilized, vaccinated against rabies, microchipped and set free into the environment from which they came,” stated Karl Luganov.
If there are aggressive dogs that attack people, these will be captured by the Cleanup Company “Autosalubritate” and will be placed in quarantine at the necropolis of Chisinau for a period and will be later put up for adoption.
At the tender contest for Râșcani and Ciocana districts held two months ago, there was chosen a veterinary clinic that will have to sterilize 450 stray dogs in these districts by this yearend.
The draft decision on the implementation of the pilot project to vaccinate and chip stray dogs was adopted by the Chisinau Municipal Council on March 31 in a move to solve the problem of breeding of stray dogs in the municipality. The General Public Amenities Division is to implement the project. It is responsible for public procurement and for the selection of the economic operators that will catch, sterilize and chip the stray dogs..
