Capriana lake restored with French investment

A lake in Capriana village of Straseni district was cleaned, treated and aerated within a project supported by the Embassy of France in Moldova. The works were carried out during six months and cost €18,000, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.

A number of tests showed the lake had a high level of eutrophication as a result of which the water becomes poorer in oxygen and ultimately destroys the aquatic fauna. Consequently, there was an intense smell, the fish died and algae invaded the lake. To solve the problem, there was installed an aeration system that pumps water from the bottom of the lake to the surface, enhancing thus its transparency. The level of oxygen increases and the toxic gases that have an unpleasant smell are eliminated. The biological life of the lake is thus stimulated.

“The cleaning of the lake located near the Capriana Monastery is a small project, but we want to have efficient cooperation so as to develop such projects in other communities of the Republic of Moldova. I think about Chisinau City, where there is a lake in each of the parks,” Ambassador of France Pascal Vagogne said during a visit.
