Capital mayoralty to re-open 4 fountains till Independence Day

The mayoralty of Chisinau municipality intends to re-open, till the Independence Day, 4 fountains from the capital – two in the „Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” Public Garden, and two in the Square of „Nasterea Domnului” Cathedral. The interim mayor of the capital announced about this as the result of the inspection of these fountains. According to Vasile Ursu, another fountain from Stefan cel Mare Public Garden, situated near the cinema „Patria”, will be rented by the cinema’s management, which promised to invest into the reconstruction of the fountain USD 250,000, including for installing an aquarium and a cafe, as well as for fitting the territory near the park. The finishing of the fountain’s reconstruction is scheduled for the City’s Day. The senior specialist of the Culture Department, architect Victor Sava, considers that public parks and gardens have to be totally into public’s property. On the other hand, he notes, their rental could be justified economically. Sava said that the reconstruction of the fountains includes their modernization, including changing the water pumping systems, and replacing the pavement. The costs of the reconstruction of those 4 fountains are estimated at 8 million lei. The municipality has also rebuilt other 2 fountains in the Square of the Opera and Ballet Theatre in 2005, for this being spent about 10 million lei.
