As academician, Groppa stressed the necessity of developing and supporting the research and innovation sectors. He pleaded for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and Moldova’s European integration. Groppa said that he decided to run for president after thoroughly analyzing the situation in the country and assured that it is not a political game, that he makes part of no party and that he does not aim to fulfill the promises of a party. He stressed he wanted to be near the MPs in a difficult period for the country and be like a bridge between the extreme parties that must work together and serve the interests of the country’. The MPs did not have questions for Groppa either. After the two candidates delivered their speeches, the Opposition parties that hold together 41 seats announced that they leave the meeting and will not take part in the election of the head of state.
