President Nicolae Timofti said he extended the time limit by which a candidate for the post of Prime Minister should be suggested at the request of the PDM and PLDM. In a press briefing on April 5, the head of state said that he did it for Moldova’s benefit and that he may announce the name of the candidate next week, IPN reports.
”I personally wanted to take a decision in this respect by today, but Moldova’s interest is to have a Government and to avoid early legislative elections, and we should better not hurry up,” Nicolae Timofti stated, adding that if need be, he will meet again the factions of the former AEI.
After Nicolae Timofti nominates a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, Parliament is to give him a vote of confidence within 45 days. If it does not, a new candidate is proposed. If the candidate is not supported again, the legislative body is dissolved and early elections are called.
