Candidate for PM: We need a Ministry of European Integration

The nominee for premiership Pavel Filip considers Moldova needs a Ministry of External Affairs and a Ministry of European Integration. He stated his opinions on the issue in a meeting with people of science and culture held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on January 19, IPN reports.

“We should focus from the very beginning on actions that would have immediate effects,” stated Pavel Filip. According to him, only a small part of the Association Agreement with the EU was implemented because different ministries were responsible for separate parts of the accord and the process wasn’t managed by one entity. The Ministry of European Integration should be created to manage the implementation of the accord and all the related areas.

The candidate also said that the reform of the local public administration will be a priority for the new Cabinet. “As we now do not have enough time, we will keep the format of the Government, but we aim to modify the structure of the central public administration within three months,” he stated.

Pavel Filip noted he knows very well the socioeconomic and political situation in the country. “I think we must bring the political disagreements to an end. I intend to build a balanced Government. I’m interested in real results, not populist actions. Stabilizing the country for doing the reform of the financial-banking system is the top priority. Ensuring the immediate protection of the people is another priority and this is within the competence of the Ministry of the Interior,” he stated, adding that the discussions with the IMF are among the first steps that will be taken.

The Academy of Science’s president Gheorghe Duca said that the country cannot develop without a sustainable government. He suggested creating a commission of scientists and businessmen, led by the Prime Minister, which would deal with the implementation of scientific innovations in the business sector.

Rector of the Academy of Economic Education Grigore Belostechnik, who heads the Council of Rectors, said a number of normative documents put education high on the Government’s list of priorities and the Cabinet that will be headed by Pavel Filip should do the same.
