Cancer Prevention Centre for Women to be built in Chisinau
The Association of Breast Surgeons of Moldova (ABSM) plans to build within the next two years the first Cancer Prevention Centre for Women. The future centre will be located in the vicinity of the Central Market.
The ABSM chairwoman, Dr. Nadejda Godoroja told Info-Prim Neo that the Centre will perform screening for cancer (a standard cancer prevention examination), including mammography for early detection of breast cancer, uterus and thyroid examinations, etc.
The need to build such a Centre is explained by the fact that nowhere in the world cancer prevention examinations are taking place in medical establishments providing treatment for cancer. Dr. Godoroja said Moldovan women wouldn’t come to the Oncology Hospital for a screening examination, because the very name of it would make them avoid such consultations.
Breast specialists hope that after the opening of the centre, Moldovan women will realise the advantages of healthiness and that prevention examinations are essential in order to avoid late stages of the disease.
There are approximately 3,500 women in Moldova suffering from various oncological diseases. Breast cancer has lately become the number one oncological disease, beating skin and lung cancer.
