The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is launching two campaigns to inform the agricultural producers. The first is entitled “A registered animal – a healthy animal” and includes the promotion of the Livestock Identification and Traceability System, while the second campaign refers to the opening of the Call Center in Agriculture, IPN reports.
Minister Ion Sula told a news conference that a Livestock Identification and Traceability System was launched in Moldova in 2007. This system has worked for eight years, but needs to be updated. The owners are directly responsible for the animals’ health and, in accordance with the law, are obliged to register these in the database within 15 days of the birth, purchase, sale or import. A file is opened on the animal to monitor him throughout his life.
According to the minister, now many of the animals are not registered and are not monitored. In the future, when the law is fully implemented, the producers will be unable to sell and export the animals and to benefit from state subsidies if they do not register the animals. This mechanism will help to swiftly localize and liquidate sources of infection in animals.
The registration of an animal costs 15 lei and is done at the branches of the National Food Safety Agency.
The Call Center in Agriculture works based on the one-stop shop principle. From October 1, the farmers can put questions to the Center’s specialists on (022) 50-20-20. The hotline is available from Monday through Friday, between 8am and 5pm.
