Campaign to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisonings

The inhabitants of the districts of Cimişlia, Leova, Hânceşti and Cantemir will be instructed by firemen and police officers to prevent fires and poisonings by fumes emitted by faulty stoves, IPN reports.

The campaign to prevent fires is carried out by the General Inspectorate for Emergencies in concert with the General Police Inspectorate. More than 140 rescuers and police officers grouped into 50 joint teams will work at the scene. These will visit homes together with representatives of the local public authorities and will tell the people how to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisonings.

The families with many children, the elderly people and the persons with disabilities are the target groups.

Last week, the firefighters and policemen instructed people from over 15,000 households in 446 localities of Moldova.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, the over 1,600 fires that happened in Moldova last year resulted in over 120 deaths. Five of the victims were children.
