Campaign to inform about elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) and the Center for Continuous Electoral Training until this autumn’s parliamentary elections will conduct an information and civic education campaign on elections entitled “Democracy matters!”, IPN reports.

Advertisements about party financing, mixed electoral system, preliminary registration of candidates, ballots, organization of elections outside the country and electoral lists, including motivational ones, will be broadcast on TV channels and radio stations. There will be worked out and distributed electoral guides, posters and brochures about the new voting system. The informative materials will reach the diaspora through Moldovans who will receive them at the airport and at border crossing points when leaving the country. Information points will be set up at Moldova’s consulates and embassies, said Corneliu Pasat, head of the CEC Communication, Public Relations and Mass Media Division.

“This year we aim to speak more about the electoral processes that take place in the Republic of Moldova, not only in the electoral period, but also in the pre-electoral period. It is very important for us to make sure that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, the voters, know very well the rules, their obligations and rights when they come to the polling place,” stated CEC president Alina Russu.

Pavel Kabachenko, director of the Center for Continuous Electoral Training, said informational meetings will be also organized in education institutions. Two electoral schools will be staged in summer, one for young activists and another one for young people who represent political parties. Also, 80 librarians will be trained in electoral matters so that they contribute to the civic education of the citizens at the local level.
