A cross representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and a well will be inaugurated at the entrance to Chisinau. The construction works have been recently completed. A sum of 250,000 lei went to build the two objects, money allocated by a number of municipal enterprises, the Ministry of Transport and Road Administration and economic agents from Buiucani district of the capital, Info-Prim Neo reports. A campaign to clean and disinfect the wells in the Chisinau municipality will be organised between June 1 and 11, during the clean water week “Water – Spring of Life”. The activities will end with the contest The Cleanest Well, Spring. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the sources of drinking water and the areas around them will be cleaned. The public wells in the Chisinau municipality will be disinfected and categorised. Government functionaries, economic agents, public organisations, residents and students will be engaged in the cleaning works on the public wells, springs and artesian wells. The Association for Green Spaces Administration in concert with the district head’s offices of Chisinau will clean and put in order the 28 springs in the recreational areas of the capital. Sources in the Municipal Center for Preventive Medicine say that the water in the largest part of the wells does not correspond to the chemical and biological standards and endangers consumers’ life. Sanitary inspectors consider that the infected water in wells is the cause for about 20% of the acute diarrheic illnesses. The morbidity through these illnesses has considerably expanded in the last period. Currently, the water in about 80% of the wells can cause acute diarrheic illnesses, viral hepatitis A, anthrax etc. According to the cited sources, the cleanest water is supplied through the centralised system, but this should be boiled or filtered before consumption. There are 1,638 wells in Chisinau municipality.
