CALM seeks elimination of pay discrimination

The Congress of Local Authorities of the Republic of Moldova (CALM) by a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip and all the leaders of parliamentary groups and parties asks to take urgent measures to remedy the deplorable and unacceptable situation as regards the remuneration of the local public authorities that has persisted since the foundation of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The CALM requests that all the decision makers of the state should sit at the negotiating table together with representatives of the local public authorities and the Congress and identify urgent measures to put things in the field right. Otherwise, the local public authorities will have to defend their rights to existence and dignity using all the possible legal ways. The local authorities are losing patience as they have enormous responsibilities and benefit from the greatest popular trust, but are humiliated and discriminated in terms of pay.

The Congress notes that the pays of the local authorities are lower than any admissible level, in breach of the law on the local self-governance, with most of the functionaries having salaries that are even lower than the minimum subsistence level. The feeling of discrimination against the local public authorities is intensified by the state budget and fiscal and customs law for 2018, which envision salary raises for ministers, MPs and judges only. This is evident discrimination and a sign of the real attitude to the local public authorities.
