Representative of about 400 peasant farmsteads call on the authorities and the prosecutor general to intervene and help them in the situation experienced by them. The farmers said they work assiduously and grow grapes and sell them to a winemaker from Strășeni district so as to earn their living. Now they cannot get their money owing to a debt that the winemaker cannot recover from a company based in southern Moldova even if there is an irrevocable court judgment and he thus cannot pay them for the supplied grapes.
Grigorii Manolache from Bobeica commune and other villagers grow grapes for the company operating in Bucovăț. In a news conference at IPN, the man said the people lost hope as they are openly robbed. He called on the prosecutor general to take measures and oblige the company to repay the debt to the winemaker so that he, for his part, could pay the farmers.
“Mister Dodon, pay attention to what is going on in our country. Our small and nice country is full of thieve and robbers who steal from farmers. Elderly people go and work in the vineyards in the sun. They enjoy the loaf of bread they gain by assiduous work, but there are persons who deprive them of all their gains. Our children must be fed and dressed, but we do not have money. Please, take action,” urged Grigorii Manolache.
Eugenia Oprea from Gălești village said the winemaker from Bucovăț always paid them for the delivered grapes on time, but the situation changed in 2018. This fact discouraged some of the grape growers and they stopped looking after the vine or cut it. They cannot understand why the company does not settle its debts if there is a final court decision.
The woman called on the presidential administration, the Government and Parliament and also on the Prosecutor General’s Office to turn their face to the farmers and not allow disrespect to be shown to them.
Victor Maftei from Lozova stated that he found the contact data of the company operating in southern Moldova and made regular calls to this. But the woman who answered the phone referred him to the manager of the company from Bucovăț. The farmers will mount a protest and will even block national roads. Someone rests at the seaside, while the farmers work in the fields when the thermometers show 36 degrees
