Call to assume commitment to promote gender equality

The Association of Independent Press (API) and the United National Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) invite the editorial staffs of media outlets of Moldova to assume the Commitment “Mass media for gender equality” and to sign it within a public event on September 19, IPN reports.

The API and UN Women hope the journalists and media outlets of Moldova realize the necessity of ensuring and promoting gender equality in virtue of the fact that the equal treatment of women and men is a fundamental defining role that forms the basis of a modern democratic society and is indispensable for developing it.

The Commitment “Mass media for gender equality”, which will be assumed by the editorial staffs of media outlets, will be signed publicly in a roundtable meeting entitled “Gender equality and the mass media: a challenge for Moldova”. Within the event, there will be presented the results and conclusions of the project to support the mass media to ensure gender equality that is implemented by the API within the UN Program “Women in Politics”, which is financed by the Government of Sweden.
