The suspension of rail traffic along the Cahul-Giurgiulesti line has left passengers with little alternatives, as the only way to get to destination is to take another transportation mode. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Moldova Railways spokesperson Daniela Juganaru informed that the average number of passengers on this route was 100 riders per travel. As concerns freight trains, they were redirected to lines connecting Moldovan and Ukrainian railways, such as Reni-Giurgiulesti and Etulia-Basarabeasca. Rail traffic on the Cahul-Giurgiulesi line has been suspended for security reasons after a routine inspection revealed a major slide of the groundwork underneath tracks due to heavy rains. An estimated 350 million lei is needed to fix the problem. The period of the repair is yet to be estimated.
