Cabinet takes steps to advance transparency of governmental data

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Concept Paper on Open Governmental Data and the procedure of publishing such data on the portal date.gov.md. By approving these measures, the Government has pledged to opening up public data as part of efforts to advance transparency and the public's right to information and to fight corruption, IPN reports.

The measures are part of the Open Government Partnership initiative, which the Moldovan Government joined in April 2012. By adopting the Concept Paper on Open Government Data, the Government has adopted the principles laid out in the G8 Open Data Charter.

Stela Mocan, director of the e-Government Center, said that, in addition to the training and information courses for public officials to help them gain better understanding of the notions of open data and reuse of public sector information, there will be held workshops for journalists, researches, and civil society members to show them methods of data analysis, visualization and interpretation. These events will be organized by the Government in cooperation with civil society organizations and development partners.
