Cabinet endorses bill to modify name of official language in Constitution

The Cabinet supports the legislative initiative to amend Article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and substitute the phrase “Moldovan language” with “Romanian language”, IPN reports.

The legislative proposal is in agreement with the Constitutional Court Judgment of December 5, 2013, which provides that in case of disagreements between the text of the Declaration of Independence and that of the Constitution, the first prevails.

The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, which was approved on August 27, 1991, says that Romanian is official language in the Republic of Moldova.
