Cabinet approves plan of events dedicated to Remembrance and Gratitude Day

The Cabinet approved the constitution of a committee that will organize events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Gratitude and also the plan of events dedicated to this day. Minister of the Interior Adrian Efros said that March 2, 2024 marks 32 years since the start of the combat to defend Moldova’s territorial integrity and independence. “That fighting left a deep and painful imprint on the hearts of our people. About 40,000 Moldovan citizens took part in the combat and 321 fell in battles, while 289 remained disabled,” the minister said in the ordinary meeting of the Cabinet.

On March 2, the country’s leadership and veterans’ organizations will lay flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephen the Great in the center of the capital city and at the monument “Sorrowful Mother” at the memorial complex “Eternity”.  Memorial services for the fallen ones will be held in churches and a Remembrance March will be staged on the streets of Chisinau.

Events to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the beginning of the combat to defend the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova will take place after March 2 as well. In secondary education institutions and extracurricular institutions, as well as in military units, an educational-patriotic campaign and commemorative events will be held until March 10. A moment of silence will also be observed. During the year, commemorative plaques and monuments will be set up and sports competitions in memory of heroes killed in battle will be held.

The approved plan also envisions social protection measures for war veterans and families of the fallen ones.
