Cabinet approves plan for promoting candidate for Nobel Peace Prize

The Government will allocate 1 million lei for the campaign to promote Moldova’s image and the message of swimmer Ion Lazarenko, who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. On January 27, Ion Lazarenko became the eighth man on Earth who swam across seven most dangerous straits in the world and the first who did it on the first attempt, IPN reports.

“Even if he has lived for over 20 years in Ireland, he always swam as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated in the January 30 meeting of the Cabinet.

Invited to the meeting, Ion Lazarenko said it is an honor for him to be nominated by the Government for the Nobel Peace Prize. “We must leave nice things behind us. The properties and houses do not matter. The war is overcome with love,” stated the swimmer, who will become Moldova’s ambassador in the promotion of peace.

Ion Lazarenko swam across the Nistru in a move to inform international community about the Transnistrian conflict. His first project was “Peace Swimming over the Nistru” as part of which he swam 240 km during eight days for charitable purposes. “Nistru unites Moldova” is another peace and friendship project implemented by him.

The laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in December.
