For each student who will be transferred from a school with fewer than 50 children to a larger public educational institution, parents will receive a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei during two years. Allowances for June-August are not granted. The Cabinet on Wednesday approved regulations to this effect, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, the Ministry will compile the list of institutions with fewer than 50 students and will work out the entire mechanism by the beginning of September. The allowances will be paid through the Mpay system or through Moldova’s Post Office.
According to the minister, the transfer to a larger school will bring more benefits to the child, including access to quality education, more varied educational options and extracurricular activities and also access to offices with modern equipment and well-resourced laboratories.
The allowance will be offered at the request of the parents or legal representatives, based on an application submitted to the institution to which the student was transferred. The money will be granted starting with September 2024. The total cost for the implementation of the measure, between September and November this year, is estimated at 3 million lei.
Currently, there are 102 general primary and secondary education institutions in the Republic of Moldova with up to 50 students.
