The persons born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, but who are not registered with the authorities and do not hold the citizenship of the country, will be able to start the procedure of recognition as a citizen based on an application. The Cabinet endorsed the draft law to amend the law on the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, the geopolitical situation in the region has generated a large number of applications for Moldovan citizenship. For citizenship not to be granted to persons who can affect state security, it is proposed to expand the circle of persons who face refusal of recognition as citizens of the Republic of Moldova. For the competent bodies to have enough time to examine the applications for citizenship, it is suggested extending the period for examining the file by six months.
Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said that the bill was drafted in order to adjust the legislation regarding the obtaining of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova and the purpose of the draft law is to eliminate the legislative weaknesses that can generate risks to state security and public order.
