Cabinet approves €5.6 million grant agreement with EBRD for waste management

The Cabinet has endorsed the €5.6 million grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for implementing the Moldova Solid Waste Management Project. The grant will contribute to green solid waste management in Ungheni, Calarasi, and Nisporeni, IPN reports.

“The grant will be used to ensure the development of the infrastructure needed to manage solid waste and to purchase indispensable equipment and tools. The local public authorities and the population, public institutions and the private sector are the beneficiaries of the grant,” said Grigore Stratulat, secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment.

The grant agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD for financing investment projects to develop solid waste management infrastructure was signed in Chisinau on March 30, 2023.

The money is provided in addition to the €25 million sovereign loan agreement that was signed and ratified in January. The project implementation period is 2023-2027, while the period of validity of the agreement is of up to 15 years with a grace period of four years.
