By third attempt, CMC can be convoked with 26 councilors
If the quorum is not present at the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) on July 18 as well, the councilors will have one more chance to convene on July 21. If the number of councilors attending is not sufficient again, the Council will be dissolved and there will be announced new elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Central Election Commission chairman Iurie Ciocan said that under the legal norms, the inaugural meeting of the CMC must be attended by 2/3 of the councilors. If the number is lower, a new meeting is called in three days. If the quorum is not present again, the third and last attempt to convene the inception meeting is made in three days.
“The third meeting summoned must be attended by a simple majority of councilors. If the 26 Communist councilors who came to the meeting on July 15 are present at the third meeting, the Chisinau Municipal Council can start work,” said Iurie Ciocan.
If the three attempts to convene the meeting to constitute the CMC fail, the Council will be dissolved and new elections will be announced. The new Council will be functional not for four years, but until the next local general elections, of 2015.
The Communist Party holds 26 seats of councilor on the CMC, the Liberal Party – 17, the Liberal Democratic Party – seven, while the Democratic Party - one seat. Only the councilors representing the Communist Party attended the meeting set for July 15.
