By a notebook for every student

Each student in Moldova will have by a laptop. This is stipulated in an agreement between the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and Microsoft Corporation signed on May 19 in the presence of Acting President of Moldova Marian Lupu, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body. Before the signing of the agreement, Marian Lupu had a meeting with Joice Fernandes, Microsoft Senior Editor WW PPA, who is responsible for the implementation of the Shape the Future Project and National PC Program. The interlocutors discussed the possibility of establishing a public-private partnership for outfitting the Moldovan schools with computers and Internet access. Marian Lupu approved of the objectives of the project and assured that the Presidential Office and Parliament will provide assistance in its implementation. He said the implementation in Moldova of successful projects that proved their efficiency in other countries will be very useful. Moldova does not have oil, gas and other natural resources and thus it will be impossible to ensure the country’s economic development without knowledge of information technology. A successful example is the project Magellan, within which two million computers were bought for residents of Portugal within three years, it is said in the communiqué. Moldova will be able to join this project aimed at equipping the schools, teachers, students and young families with computers and Internet connection. So far, it has been joined by Ukraine, Georgia, Brazil, Kuwait, the UK, and Portugal. The UK assessed the benefit that the citizens of the country will enjoy after the project is implemented at US$22 billion. More than 260,000 British students received by a notebook within this project.
