The allocation for a student’s breakfast at schools in the municipality of Chisinau will rise by 2 lei following a decision taken by the Chisinau Municipal Council. The head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has told IPN that most probably the students will be fed according to the new norm from May.
“In accordance with the Law on Public Procurement, we must hold a tender contest to choose bids for the provision of services to feed the pupils at the price of 10 lei each, not 8 lei as now. We must include this sum of 2 lei into a new menu, while the signed contracts do not envision something like this. We thus must terminate the contracts and hold a new tender contest within 45 days. It’s thus not known when the children will be fed on 10 lei. I think this will happen at the beginning of May,” stated Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb.
By 7 lei is allocated from the state budget for giving breakfast to children of the first-fourth grades. The difference is covered with municipal financial resources. The decision to raise the allocations for food derives from the necessity of varying the menu and increasing the quantity of calories.
About 32,000 children of the first-fourth grades and 550 elder children from socially deprived families take breakfast at school in the municipality of Chisinau.
