Businessman Vitalie Perciun is threatened so that he passes on a part of his businesses to representatives of the criminal underworld, said his lawyer Oxana Eșanu. In a news conference at IPN, the lawyer stated that her client is now held in Penitentiary No. 13. He was arrested so as to be pressed to yield up his businesses, in concert with prosecutors and the police.
According to the lawyer, the news portal that belongs to Vitalie Perciun on January 13 published an article about the lack of integrity of Alexandru Cebănaș, who heads the General Investigation Division that now conducts the investigation in the case featuring the businessman.
“Furthermore, Valerii Țurcanu (investigating officer) earlier worked at the Centru Police Inspectorate, under the direction of Alexandru Cebănaș. The two became friends. Also, Mister Valerii Țurcanu was the protagonist of features by Cristian Rizea, which were allegedly ordered by my client. Given this grudge, he (Valerii Țurcanu) built this case in which my client is accused of involvement in the illegal sale and purchase of a real estate unit that belonged to a company that he founded and manages,” said the lawyer, noting that based on a transfer of 33 lei into the share capital of a company owned by Vitalie Perciun, they claim the value of a real estate unit that is worth over 10 million lei.
“A businessman who, as we confirmed, paid 4 million lei taxes into the state budget is dreadfully terrorized and humiliated by the justice system so as to make him do as those from the criminal underworld want. And we speak about the justice sector reform,” said Oxana Eșanu. The lawyer called on the politicians of the ruling party and on Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco to counteract the abuses committed by the law enforcement bodies primarily against businessmen.
The lawyer said that an application was submitted to the European Court of Human Rights. “It is a registered complaint to the ECHR on my behalf as a lawyer and on behalf of my client. We hope that only through the agency of an independent justice system, we will obtain equitable justice in the case of Vitalie Perciun. The life of my client and of the members of his family is in danger owing also to the actions of the Prosecutor’s Office,” stated Oxana Eșanu.
