The protest movements must unite regardless of their geopolitical sympathy so that society does not become divided as those who govern need and want society to split so as to promote their interests, Nicu Trincanu, businessman working in agriculture from Edinet district, stated in the public debate “Protest movements in Moldova: motives, manifestations, typical features, developments, benefits, dangers” that was organized by IPN News Agency in partnership with Radio Moldova.
The businessman noted that protest movements appeared lately in different sectors and this is beneficial because, when the people are not satisfied, they feel the need to protest. In the case of farmers, the demands are very specific, but society must realize that the problems of farmers will affect all the people. All the protesting forces should unite as to as to achieve their objectives.
Nicu Trincanu referred also to the unionist movement, which also staged protests in the recent past. According to him, the unionists who take part in protests include patriots who are disappointed in the government and fear for the country’s future. But they must understand that a pronounced geopolitical sympathy, either unionist or pro-Russia, intensifies division. All the protesters must unite and be a cohesive force so as to contribute to changes and improved living conditions.
The businessman said the farmers had to take to the streets because they are in a difficult situation. They demand increasing the agriculture subsidization fund up to 1.2 billion lei, unblocking lending to farmers and reducing interest rates on loans. There are also other impediments that the authorities can remove without incurring costs, like legal matters that hamper the development of businesses. There are businessmen who want to bring new sorts of crops to the country, but have to go through difficult procedures related to homologation.
The debate “Protesting movements in Moldova: motives, manifestations, typical features, developments, benefits, dangers” is the 39th of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
