Businessman Iuri Luncașu, a close friend of Vlad Plahotniuc, died on August 17 from a gunshot wound to the head. Natalia Stati, press officer of the Capital Police, told IPN that law enforcement officials were informed about the incident on the roadside of R6 at around 8:07 pm.
According to Natalia Stati, the Police Inspectorate operative group and forensic medicine specialists were met on site by the man who reported the incident at 112. The caller is the victim's driver, 57-year-old Boris Babin.
According to Natalia Stati, he said that while driving with Iuri Luncașu, he was asked to pull over. The victim got out of the car and shot himself in the head with the weapon that he legally possessed.
The victim’s identity was confirmed by Eduard Masnic, Buiucani Chief Prosecutor, who told reporters the case was being investigated as a suicide. Eduard Mașnic added that Iuri Luncașu's driver was quizzed before being released.
The police continue their investigations to determine all the circumstances that led to the death of Iuri Luncașu.
In 2014, in was reported that Iuri Luncașu accompanied Vlad Plahotinuc on a trip to France and that the businessman owned several construction companies.
