Bus with Romanians and Moldovans aboard catches fire in Austria

A bus with a Romanian registration number with 60 Moldovan and Romanian citizens on board started to burn on a road in Austria. All the passengers were evacuated and no one was hurt, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

According to the Ministry, the bus was travelling from Spain and was heading for Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The bus was registered in Romania, while the trailer has a Moldovan registration number.

The bus was destroyed by flames during about ten minutes. The cause of fire is not yet clear. The trailer was detached from the bus on time and remained intact.

As the driver and passengers said, they were escorted by the police to a filling station close to the place of the accident to wait for units of transport that will take them to Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The drivers are looking for alternative routes.

It is not yet known if the Moldovan passengers have IDs and these weren’t damaged. If they don’t have IDs, travel documents will be made for them so that they could continue their way home.
