Bumacov about his plans during tenure as ambassador to Japan

Former Minister of Agriculture and current Ambassador to Japan Vasile Bumacov intends to attract the support of the Japanese people so as to implement projects in agriculture, medicine and environment protection. He spoke about his plans as ambassador in the talk show “Dialogue” on Agro TV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“I have discussed projects with the authorities of Japan since 1999 and have already a reserve of pre-discussed projects. In agriculture, we considered several irrigation, solar energy, mechanization and farming training projects,” stated Vasile Bumacov.

He noted that during this tenure as ambassador, he will also deal with other areas. In particular, he is dissatisfied with the fact that the Republic of Moldova is a polluter and will thus make effort to attract Japanese projects and experience in this regard. He considers he will have to work more with the Japanese people so that the Moldovans learn from their experience in promoting products. “We have what to promote in Japan, for example our wines and dried fruits,” said the diplomat.

Speaking about the agricultural sector of Moldova, Vasile Bumacov said that this area suffered a lot in 2015. The farmers started to lose hope because they had to offer bribe when exporting and thus stopped to invest in their businesses. “The subsidies are of great assistance in agriculture, but represent rather moral support than financial assistance,” he stated.

The former minister added that the potential of the Moldovan agriculture is very great. The Japanese officials, when they come to Moldova, recommend the authorities to take care of farmers and place agriculture high on the list of priorities.
