Bulgarian sentenced in Moldova for smuggling 127 kg of heroine

A Bulgarian national got 12 years in jail in Moldova for smuggling drugs in very large quantities. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in August 2015 the culprit tried to smuggle about 127 kg of heroine to the EU through Moldova, IPN reports.

During investigations, it was established that the culprit hid the drugs in containers under the floor of the vehicle that apparently transported ceramic tiles so that these could not be found at the customs post. His plans were thwarted during a check at the Giurgiulesti-Galati customs post, when he tried to leave Moldova with the heroine.

The unit of transport driven by the culprit entered Moldova through the Giurgiulesti-Reni customs post and was to leave the country through the Giurgiulesti-Galati post. The heroine was to be transported to Greece.

The vehicle and semi-trailer driven by the Bulgarian national were confiscated.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
