Chisinau’s Buiucani district has taken the second place in the nationwide competition “The Greenest and Cleanest Settlement” which was held on the occasion of the World Environment Day, annually celebrated on June 5. According to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the first place was not awarded, as it should be an ideal standard that the capital has to attain. Yet, the Buiucani district managed to get the second place, and the district office was awarded a money prize worth 46,000 lei on this occasion, which the authorities will use to solve the environmental issues challenging the district. The criteria used for designated the winner of the competition were the general condition of the settlement, the condition of the roads and green areas, refuse disposal, constructions and architectural development. To bring the district to a proper condition, the local authorities speeded up the works of planting sods and flowers. At the same time, all the garbage bins were refurbished. Particular attention was paid to the entrances to the city and their illumination. In late May, near the entrance to Chisinau from the side of Straseni, a well was put into use and a crucifix erected. The suburban town of Sangera also scored well in the competition.
