Buildings of 35 kindergartens and schools from Chisinau are old and risk to crumble

The buildings of 35 kindergartens and schools from Chisinau are old and risk to crumble. “We cannot say that today or tomorrow it may happen that a ceiling crumbles or other some emergency (...) The technical situation of these buildings is outrun,” the deputy chief of the General Direction of Education, Youth and Sports, Gheorghe Suceveanu, stated on Monday, November 24, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the public servant, those buildings were built from 1893 to 1967. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu assured there is no imminent danger of crumbling. “The buildings are not built according to modern standards, but there is no danger anywhere, no leaking in such kindergartens,” Grozavu has stated. Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has recently ordered checking all Chisinau educational institutions after the ceiling from a room in kindergarten 34 from Chisinau crumbled on November 14. The preliminary results show that the ceiling could not resist because of the condensation created as a result of temperature fluctuation. The local authorities are to supervise the blocks incurring the risk to crumble and to decide if these institutions need to be relocated.
