The Cabinet approved the budget of the Common Emergency Phone Service 112 for this year, in the amount of 67 million lei, IPN reports.

The largest part of the financial recourses will go to purchase the automated information system of the Service 112, which was estimated at 45.3 million lei.

The goal of the Service 112 is to process emergency calls made to a universal phone number and to reduce the intervention time of specialized services. This will work nonstop and all the calls to it will be free, both from the landline and the mobile phone networks.

The Service will become fully functional at the end of this March and will incorporate the emergency numbers 901, 902 and 903.

112 is the common emergency telephone number used in all the European Union member states.
