Bucharest, Chisinau looking for solutions to retransmit TVR1

The Governments of Romania and Moldova are exploring possibilities of resuming the retransmission of the Romanian public TV channel TVR1 in Moldova, Romanian President Traian Basescu said while on an official visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.

Traian Basescu said the license of TVR1 was annulled abusively in 2007 and the channel filed a complaint to the ECHR. The Romanian state suspended the case in the hope that a joint solution will be identified soon.

TVR1’s license allowing broadcasting on Moldova’s territory was withdrawn in 2007. Afterward, it was decided that the local TV channel 2 Plus will retransmit the programs of the Romanian TV channel Antena International on the same frequency. Shortly afterward, 2 Plus occupied 70% of the broadcasting space, with the programs of Antena International accounting for the other 30%.
