Brussels looks at Republic of Moldova with moderate optimism, opinions

The experience of the bank fraud after the Republic of Moldova was declared a success story of the Eastern Partnership makes the European officials to look at our country with moderate optimism. The European financial assistance was unlocked, but money will be disbursed on particular conditions, depending on the achieved results, political commentators stated in a TV program, being quoted by IPN.

According to the commentators, the first visit by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița to Brussels, by the multitude of meetings she had there, shows that the EU considers the Republic of Moldova a reliable partner that is able to deliver on the electoral promises. However, to benefit from European funds, the government will have to fulfill strict conditions.

“There were made such visits to Brussels earlier too, but the context is now different and the Republic of Moldova is governed by a pro-European party that has been built on the principles of integrity and transparency and that wants to reform the Republic of Moldova. There were set four priorities: justice sector reform and fight against corruption; the pandemic, economic recovery, and institutional strengthening. The Republic of Moldova will receive support for these priorities, but the assistance is provided on particular conditions. Plainly speaking, the coming of the European money will depend on the way in which reforms are done inside the country. As we already had success stories, now Brussels look at the Republic of Moldova with moderate, realistic optimism,” political commentator Ion Tăbârță stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

According to journalist Anatolie Golea, the trust enjoyed by the Republic of Moldova at foreign level is the current government’s trump card and the potential of this international opening should be realized for the citizens’ benefit.

“This is a visit full of symbolism. For now, we cannot speak about palpable results obtained by the new government in the economic and social sectors. Even if the pensions and social benefits are expected to be raised as from October 1, the first and most evident results were achieved in the foreign policy sector. We see the restoration of the Chisinau-Brussels relations. A visit to Chisinau is to be paid by the President of Germany, which is a very important country. The President of Slovenia will then come and this is another important visit as Slovenia is holding the presidency of the European Union,” stated Anatolie Golea.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is visiting the Republic of Moldova from 29 to 30 September. In Chisinau, the Federal President will be welcomed with military honors by the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu. As well as holding political talks with the President, the Prime Minister and representatives of parliament, the Federal President will be opening a business conference and meeting German Academic Exchange Service alumni and local politicians. Also, the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor is expected to visit Chisinau during October 1-2.
