The Republic of Moldova benefits from exports of electricity and natural gas from Romania on a commercial basis, said Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja. The exports are made after Romania's domestic needs are satisfied, IPN reports.
The energy crisis was amplified by the halt in the delivery of Russian gas to the Kuchurgan power plant, which left Moldova with a deficit of 600 MW. Romania intervened with supplies of 100 MW from NuclearElectrica, and other quantities are being negotiated. The total energy export capacity to Moldova is 430 MW, and a European mechanism expanded this capacity to 600 MW.
As for natural gas, Moldova has sufficient stocks, including commercial and emergency reserves stored in Romania. The interconnector Iasi-Ungheni can deliver up to 6.1 million m³ of gas daily, enough to cover the consumption of the Republic of Moldova even in winter.
Burduja reaffirmed Romania's support for Moldova, stressing that this assistance complies with the legal framework and is limited by the available resources. "Brothers will forever be brothers. Our purpose is to be together," concluded the minister.
In order to combat toxic propaganda, the Minister of Energy specified:
1. Exports of electricity and natural gas are made from Romania to the Republic of Moldova on a commercial basis, under the conditions of the law.
2. The support is provided only within the limits of the available volumes, after satisfying the own needs.
3. Yes, I believe that we have a moral duty to be with our brothers from over the Prut with everything possible.
