Two brothers, one of whom is an officer of the National Public Security Inspectorate, are accused of transporting and keeping a batch of over 1.3 million cigarettes without excise stamps. The criminal case was sent to court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, by not paying excise duties on the transported goods, the two caused over 1 million lei damage to the state budget, as the State Tax Service determined. The two are aged 28 and 33 and live in Chisinau. They both have higher education.
The culprits were stopped by officers of the National Investigation Inspectorate while transporting goods from the center to the north of the country, with the officer of the National Public Security Inspectorate dressed in uniform driving the vehicle, near Sângerei district. The over 1.3 million cigarettes found in the vehicle were seized.
