Broadcasting regulator warns publicly two radio stations

Two radio stations were warned publicly by the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) for not ensuring the required volume of national songs in their broadcast schedule. The stations are Univers FM and Radio Sport, IPN reports.

Mariana Cersac, deputy head of the BCC’s General Licensing, Authorization and Monitoring Division, said that Univers FM broadcast less than 17% of the required volume of national songs, while Radio Sport slightly over 26%. The songs were mainly broadcast at night.

Univers FM director Mihai Miron said the station’s format is special. They focus on national folk-rock songs, but there are not so many such songs. The repeated broadcasting of the songs of “Noroc” band and the Stefanet brothers, which fit the station’s format, may upset the listeners.

The BCC members insisted that the radio stations should broadcast at least 30% of the national songs within musical programs.

In the same meeting, the BCC warned the radio station “Radio Poli Disc - Russkoe Radio” for announcing the sponsor of the program in one of its weather bulletins. The action was described as hidden advertising. In the context, the radio stations were asked to draft a bill regulating product placement in audio format within two weeks.
