Broadcasting regulator penalizes five broadcasters

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) issued public warnings for five of the eight broadcasters monitored in February, Info-Prim Neo reports. These are the TV channels NTS (Taraclia) and Accent TV, and the radio stations Albena (Taraclia), Retro FM, and Radio Plai. The warned broadcasters violated the program policy submitted to the BCC when applying for a broadcast license. There were practically no educative, informative and cultural programs in the broadcast schedule. A part of the broadcasters did not observe the quota of 30% of national programs or aired programs and films without signing contracts with the owners of copyright. “Any deviation is a violation. The law is law and the BCC should impose penalties on the broadcasters that break the regulations so as to prevent more violations,” member of the Council Corneliu Mihalache said in Friday’s meeting. Some of the warned broadcasters argued that they do not have financial resources to develop and promote own programs. “Discipline is needed in the broadcasting sector. A part of the broadcasters always notify the BCC about the changes in their broadcast schedule, while others avoid doing it,” said the BCC chairman Gheorghe Gorincioi. The Broadcasting Coordination Council will supervise again the warned broadcasters.
