Broadcasting regulator issues public warnings to 12 radio stations

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) publicly warned 12 radio stations over the non-observance of the Broadcasting Code’s provisions concerning the national media content that should represent at least eight hours of the daily broadcast volume and should be broadcast between 6am and 12 noon. Under the legislation, at least six hours of the national content should be broadcast in prime time, minimum four of each in the official language, IPN reports.

For derogations from the Broadcasting Code, public warnings were issued to the stations: “Radio 21”, “Hit FM”, “Radio 7”, “Kiss FM”, “Aquarelle FM”, “Retro FM”, “Radio Alla”, “Univers FM”, “Radio Chisinau”, “Radio Zum”, “Radio 911” and “Datina FM”. The stations “Radio Sport” and “Europa Plus Moldova” are to be subject to additional monitoring.

BCC chairman Dragos Vicol said the broadcasters invoke different reasons for not obeying the provisions of the Broadcasting Code and the regulations concerning the volume of national content that was published in the Official Gazette last April and took effect last October. Thus, the broadcasters had enough time to familiarize themselves with these requirements and to meet them.

Of the 30 monitored radio stations, only 11 fully obeyed the Broadcasting Code’s provisions concerning the national media content. These are: “Radio Moldova”, “Micul Samaritean”, “Muz FM”, “Radio Plai”, “Vocea Sperantei”, “Jurnal FM”, “Radio.md”, “Publika FM”, “Noroc FM”, “Radio Studentus” and “Poli Disc – Novoie Radio”. According to Dragos Vicol, if there is will and constant preoccupation, things can be improved.
