The British Embassy in Chisinau announced that the applications for 2024-2025 Chevening Scholarships are now open. Those interested can submit applications online by November 7, 2023, IPN reports.
In a press release, the British Embassy says that Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships program funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organizations. The scholarships support study at over 150 UK universities – mostly one year taught master’s degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers. They will gain access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional and cultural experiences. At the end of the scholarship, the alumni return home equipped with the knowledge and networks to implement positive changes in their country.
According to the Head of Scholarships Unit at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Emma Hennessey, the Chevening alumni use the skills and knowledge they acquire while staying in the UK to bring about the change, to promote better and safer lives for the people all over the world to live, work and thrive.
British Ambassador in Chisinau Steven Fisher noted that the notion of typical scholar does not exist in the Chevening program. The age, race, sex, religion and the cultural environment does not matter. “We want to see that you have energy, curiosity, compassion, a clear view about your future and capacity to achieve the objectives. In this case, it is highly probable that you will join our community of over 55,000 alumni from all over the world,” stated the diplomat.
Since the program was established in 1983, over 50,000 Chevening alumni around the world and over 100 alumni from the Republic of Moldova had the occasion of taking their careers to a new level through the Chevening program.
