Briceni villages in danger of being flooded towards evening

The largest torrent on the Prut is expected today in Briceni district at 5pm, Minister of the Interior Victor Catan told a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“This is the sixth torrent that will be the largest as all the meadows of the Prut are full of water. The Prut water level towards evening will be 5 meters. The flow capacity is now 800 cubic meters per second, as against 120-200 cubic meters per second before floods,” the minister said.
A number of settlements in Briceni district, including Drepcauti, Criva, Lipcani and Sirauti, risk being flooded. The Commission for Emergencies is working in the area. The floodwaters can reach villages of Ungheni, Cantemir and Leova districts that are located along the Prut.
