Brexit will affect rhetoric of Moldovan parties, Viorel Cibotaru

The results of the UK referendum, in which more than half of the participants voted in favor of the exit, will definitely affect the political rhetoric of the Moldovan parties, considers the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) Viorel Cibotaru. Contacted by IPN, the politician said Brexit will be certainly used in the information war waged by Russia on a number of countries, including Moldova.

“The anti-Moldova, anti-Moldovan people and anti-Romania forces in this area will step up their activities so as to attract people, instigate hatred and demonize the European institutions. This already started to happen, judging by the reaction of the pro-Russian parties in Moldova,” said the leader of the PLDM.

Viorel Cibotaru noted that the EU is a project that should continue and the UK’s exit should take place swiftly - who leaves should leave. This event will affect the whole European Union and the UK as well as other states because the exit itself can have particular consequences in different spheres such as the geopolitical, political, economic, social and others. “Surely Moldova will be affected, as other countries will. I’m personally on the side of the optimists who consider that any crisis is an objective phenomenon that reflects particular dissatisfaction and things that weren’t completed or explained,” said the politician.

The Lib-Dem stated that even if the expectations of the EU member states and associate states like Moldova are not met immediately, there are possibilities of continuing this project based on the rule of law and the sharing of a clear set of values, on a free market economy. These things will not disappear when the UK leaves. They can be stabilized after all the effects and the exit by the UK.

Viorel Cibotaru admits that consequences at societal level can also exist. There are great fears in Europe that the UK’s exit will lead to the appearance of nationalist spirits and movements as in other countries.

Slightly over half of the participants in the UK referendum of June 23 voted for the state to leave the EU.
