The results of examinations performed through mammography systems with tomosynthesis at the Oncological Institute in Chisinau and the Balti Clinical Hospital for detecting breast cancer could be transmitted from a distance, while the diagnosis could be written by two specialists, as international protocols provide, thanks to a digital system that will transmit information about examined patients. The announcement was made in a news conference on Friday, IPN reports.

“The connection of the mammography systems of the Balti Clinical Hospital and the Oncological Institute is extremely important. The goal is to early detect breast cancer and to correctly make a diagnosis and prescribe treatment,” said Ruslan Baltaga, director of the Oncological Institute. According to him, this system will contribute to the decentralization of particular processes and will facilitate access to high-quality medical services.

Ion Prisăcaru, secretary of state of the Ministry of Health, said the population should realize the necessity of leading a healthy lifestyle so as to counteract cancer risks and of learning to prevent this disease by doing routine tests.

“Regrettably, cancer is one of the leading causes of death, ranking second. To reduce these risks, it is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle and to avoid vices. Regular medical checkups are as important as these can prevent negative developments. Our country needs at least six machines, but a nuclear accelerator costs a lot. We aim to make sure that this type of treatment becomes available to all our citizens in two years,” stated Ion Prisăcaru.

Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer globally, accounting for 12.5% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide. The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer at early stages in Moldova has increased the last few years.
