The second stage of the campaign “A doctor for you” was launched by presenting four trucks with medical equipment for lung and breast cancer screening. The trucks cost 18 million lei. Three of these were outfitted with mammography equipment, while one is intended for pulmonary screening, IPN reports.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Silvia Radu said the second stage of the campaign “A doctor for you” will center on breast cancer scanning. “It is very important to take the mammary screening as breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death. Until this yearend, we aim to go to six districts. Next year we intend to travel all over the country,” stated the minister, adding the districts with a high number of cancers will be visited the first.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the people in Moldova regrettably go to see a doctor too late and it is not necessarily their blame. The poorly developed infrastructure at the local level is actually the problem. The state’s long-term view is to modernize the medical system so as to manage to detect as many diseases as possible at the incipient stage.
The program “A doctor for you” was kicked off by Prime Minister Pavel Filip this August. About 20,000 persons benefitted from free medical consultations as part of this so far.
